Pat Hertzberg Signature

After completing Fine Art programs in Ottawa, Pat graduated from Sheridan College in Oakville, and York University in Toronto. She attended the Penland School (Textiles) in North Carolina, and has studied a wide variety of textile art techniques under numerous fibre artists in both Canada and the United States.

Pat's background is in the Canadian Fashion industry, designing womens wear and accessories for a number of Canadian manufacturers. Also, with her own factory in Toronto, she ran a design / manufacturing operation selling to major Canadian retailers, mid-size chains and high-end boutiques across Canada.

After leaving the fashion world, her fine art training and extensive knowledge of fabrics merged into a new career as a fine artist. Pat alters traditional textile techniques and combines them in novel ways, with unique end results. She pioneered the 'thread web' process - an innovative technique that borrows from the lace-making tradition, using modern technology.

Having travelled to many parts of the world has provided Pat with access to diverse perspectives, and has instilled an appreciation of the need for inclusiveness, connectivity, respect and global responsibility. These concepts are evident in her recent work.

Pat was a Resident Artist at Mississauga's LIVING ARTS CENTRE for six years, and is a member of the 'Connections Fibre Artists' group. Her work can be found in both corporate and private collections in Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Mexico and Italy.
